An excellent start

Fourteen Nova Roman provinces are now working towards establishing Egressus Clubs. They are:

America Austroccidentalis
America Austrorientalis
America Medioccidentalis Superior
Brasilia
Canada Occidentalis
Canada Orientalis
Dacia
Gallia
Italia
Lacus Magni
Mediatlantica
Mexico
Nova Britannia
Pannonia

The boundaries of these provinces can be viewed here and can be compared to national boundaries. There is still a considerable amount of research and planning to be done, not least in networking with prospective organizers.

The CPT is also expanding its databases of links and suggestions for club events and it has been bolstered by the addition of a number of new members. Currently it comprises an administration section, continental and Nova Roman provincial representatives, together with four senior advisors.

This summer seems set to be a busy one for the very dedicated members of the CPT and one can only be deeply appreciative of all the time and effort these volunteers commit to this project.

Ready to GO ROMAN!

On the 5th October 2004 a proposal for collegiate Roman activities was first suggested and from that the GO ROMAN! project was born. This initiative was adopted by Sodalitas Egressus and has gradually developed into the concept of Egressus Clubs centered in post-secondary institutions, promoting Romanitas in the 21st Century.

The Egressus Clubs will provide the framework for a worldwide network of students and enthusiasts of Roman culture and history to interact and "live the experience" of Rome in a way that no ordinary classics club could hope to do.

The Central Planning Team (CPT) of GO ROMAN! has developed a comprehensive range of tools to assist in the development of these clubs, a startup guide, a handbook for provincial officials, a website within the Sodalitas Egressus web page and this blog. Currently under development is a database to assist in event planning and a compendium of useful links.

This blog will cover further developments of the project, both at a central and provincial level, and is intended as one of the primary means of non-urgent communication between the CPT and the clubs. Provincial officials too will hopefully find this a useful resource.

Within the next few days all provincial governors will be contacted by the CPT to provide a detailed update and explanation of the project and the immediate goals, as well of course as to re-extend an invitation to participate in the GO ROMAN! Egressus Clubs now that the development stage has concluded and the operational stage is ready to commence.

Looking to the future, GO ROMAN! as a concept also has viability in areas other than post-secondary education. The CPT will be responsible for exploring the options open to Sodalitas Egressus to develop its outreach activity further through the extension of GO ROMAN! into other groups and organizations. To that end the webpage and graphics have been designed to reflect the Egressus Clubs as an initiative within the GO ROMAN! project, which will ensure that time consuming alterations are avoided.
